Fresh Coat of Paint

After getting all the electronics figured out, I decided to put some finishing touches on the enclosure. A cheap cabinet lock was used to secure the bottom compartment. This adds little actual security, but should keep people from messing with things after the phone is installed somewhere.

There is a lot of imprecision in this project, so some wood filler was used to hide some of the gaps post-assembly.

A thin piece of wood with some metal screws was installed in the top compartment to act as a stop for the door. Magnets were adhered to the door to keep it closed.

I installed LED difussers to hide the appearance of the strips.

The enclosure was painted a sky blue color to match the scheme on afterthebeep.tel.

Along with a nice blue color, the site features a cloudy background. I did some tests to practice clouds before comitting to paining the enclosure.

Here is the finished cloud paint.

I painted the top compartment frame a metallic gold to differentiate it from the rest of the enclosure.

I still need to make an insert for the top marquee area and tweak the firmware that drives the LEDs, but this project is nearing completion.
